PETITION TARGET: South African Police Service and Western Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile
Two dogs allegedly suffered horrifying deaths along a South African freeway, with one left hanging from a wall and the other wedged between concrete palisades as they desperately struggled to break free before ultimately succumbing to strangulation, according to local news.
A passing motorist spotted the two dogs and alerted the Animal Welfare Society of South Africa, but by the time responders arrived, both animals were already dead.
Even more disturbing, this appears to be part of a broader pattern in which criminals reportedly hang dogs along roadways and leave them to suffer to manipulate compassionate drivers into stopping — only to rob them when they do.
“We believe this is a tactic that they are using to lure unsuspecting animal lovers who drive on the busy road, who may stop to make a phone call to report or who may want to help save a life. It is heartbreaking to see animals being used like this,” explained Animal Welfare Society of South Africa hospital manager and veterinary nurse Jaque le Roux.
The terror and agonizing pain these two dogs must have endured as they were allegedly strung up by their necks and left gasping for air is almost unimaginable, and the fact that they were seemingly used to exploit kindhearted people makes this even more reprehensible.
Sign our petition urging the South African Police Service to investigate this case thoroughly, identify the person or persons who hung these two dogs and left them to die, and pursue any connected crimes involving animals being used to lure and rob motorists.
