PETITION TARGET: LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell
A beloved 2-year-old Golden Saint Berdoodle named Jameson was killed after a police officer fired four shots at him just moments after he slipped out the front door of his Los Angeles, California, home while his guardian was speaking with officers during a welfare check, according to local news.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Jameson’s devastated guardian collapsed beside him, cradling his body and weeping as the dog took his final breath, a devastating contrast to the celebration they had been sharing only a short time earlier after the Knicks won the Finals.
Jameson should never have lost his life simply for stepping outside his home. The officer who shot him drew his firearm almost immediately after his guardian opened the door, before killing the dog as he moved toward him, in what appears to have been a reckless and avoidable escalation of the encounter.
Sign our petition urging LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell to conduct a full and transparent investigation, hold the officer appropriately accountable if misconduct is found, and implement stronger training and policies to help ensure safer interactions with animal companions.
