PETITION TARGET: British Columbia Royal Canadian Mounted Police (B.C. RCMP)
Sunny the dog was allegedly tied to the back of a truck in Merritt, British Columbia and dragged behind the moving vehicle – shredding the defenseless dog’s nails and leaving him with painful abrasions, as reported by CTV News Vancouver. The little collie mix survived the horrific experience, but the pure terror and helplessness he must have felt while being dragged behind a moving vehicle is unconscionable.
Animal protection officers seized the young dog and rushed him to receive veterinary aid for his injuries after the apparent act of cruelty, when it was also discovered Sunny was severely malnourished. The emaciated dog had a body score of only 2 out of 9 — he was so skinny the outline of his bones was visible under his skin, as could be seen in photos shared by Sunny’s rescuers and reported by the Vancouver Sun.
No dog deserves to be brutalized, terrorized, or starved.
Sunny is recovering from his horrifying ordeal in the care of B.C. SPCA’s Kamloops animal centre — but this innocent dog deserved better from the start.
Charges have not been filed against any individual at this time. So long as the person responsible for Sunny’s suffering is still at large, animals may be at risk.
Sign our petition urging B.C. RCMP to thoroughly investigate and apprehend the person(s) responsible, before they have the chance to harm another animal and/or human.
