In a heartbreaking series of alleged poisonings, 12 cats lost their lives, and four dogs were left seriously ill — with two still fighting to survive — in a mountain village in Spain, according to local news.
Disturbingly, the animals are believed to have consumed pet food and pieces of chicken laced with what appears to be rat poison and deliberately placed at strategic points across the town.
In addition, this appears to be part of a recurring pattern, as a dog in the same village reportedly died last year after ingesting food that contained rat poison.
The terror and agony these cats and dogs likely endured after unknowingly consuming poisoned food cannot be ignored, and authorities must act quickly to identify whoever is responsible before more innocent animals are made to suffer and die.
