PETITION TARGET: The World Organisation for Animal Health

Aboard a livestock carrier, farmed animals experience unimaginable suffering far outside public view. Stuffed so tightly into a ship that they are nearly stacked atop each other, animals are forced to endure long journeys standing in their own waste with minimal food or water.

Every year millions of cows, goats, pigs, and other farmed animals are crammed into overcrowded ships and transported long distances by sea only to be butchered at their destination. These journeys take anywhere from days to weeks. There are no places for animals to relieve themselves, creating filthy conditions that can easily lead to disease outbreaks.

Animals in sea transit suffer immensely before they even reach the slaughterhouse. Water and food are often out of reach due to the sheer volume of animals in the holding area. Delays in reaching port further prolong the misery. In some of the worst cases, these ships can get caught in military conflicts, leading to the vessels being struck by artillery and sunk, killing every animal on board.

The inhumanity of live export is a global issue that requires global action. The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) is the global authority on animal health and welfare, influencing animal health policy worldwide. WOAH is currently updating its live transport standards and we are calling on these experts to declare live export as inhumane.

Sign the petition below to join us, and animal advocates worldwide, in urging WOAH to demand an end to live export for farmed animals.
