PETITION TARGETS: Subway CEO John Chidsey; Krystal CEO Josh Kern; P.F. Chang’s CEO Eduardo Luz; Hardee’s CEO Max Wetzel; Other restaurants

Beaks brutally cut off just hours after hatching, crammed into a tiny cage with other birds in a space too small to even extend their wings, and often starved to maximize their egg production—this is the horror of life of an egg-laying hen confined to a battery cage.

This existence is so harrowing that many hens die from the stress—leaving the other chickens trapped in the cage with their corpses and in distress.

These innocent, sensitive animals are suffering in cages every day—while major restaurants like Hardee’s, Crumbl, Subway, P.F. Chang’s, and others continue to support this cruelty. According to The Humane League’s Cage-Free Eggsposé, many restaurants made public promises to stop sourcing eggs from hens raised in these torturous cages, but some refuse to tell consumers whether they’re making any progress.

Several major restaurants that pledged to go 100% cage-free have also removed these policies from their websites or refused to respond to inquiries into the status of their pledges, according to The Humane League.

Meanwhile, other companies, like Crumbl Cookies, are falling behind by not even having a cage-free egg commitment in place, highlighting the company’s apparent disregard for consumer preferences and animal welfare.

Lady Freethinker and The Humane League are calling on these restaurants to reduce the suffering of innocent animals and fully transition to cage-free eggs.

There is no question that confining mother hens to tiny battery cages is cruel: 11 states have already banned the sale and/or production of eggs from cages and countless restaurants have already transitioned to using cage-free eggs exclusively.

Mother hens should not be left to suffer immense psychological distress and pain while the companies who promised to do better continue to profit—seemingly without making a simple change that would have an enormous impact on animal welfare.

No being should spend their life confined in a cramped, metal cage where they are unable to move or spread their limbs.

Sign Lady Freethinker and The Humane League’s petition to demand these restaurants end the nightmare for chickens by removing cruel battery cages for good.
