Adoptable cats are finding their forever homes by being matched them with elderly guardians, thanks to a heartwarming and creative initiative developed by an animal rescue near Taunton, England, according to the BBC.

Not only does this program at St Giles Animal Rescue Center help reduce the increasing amount of homeless cats arriving in its care but it alleviates loneliness for seniors.

Through the new program, 89-year-old Angela Wills was able to adopt 13-year-old Snowy the cat.

“It’s lovely. I know that I’m not on my own and she’s the best alarm clock to wake up to in the morning,” Wills said.

Sadly, Snowy’s previous guardian passed away, and the cat was at the rescue for a long time.

“I’m an older person and I wouldn’t like to have a younger cat in case I pop off wherever we go — but as Snowy is an older cat, it’s perfect,” Wills stated.

Home visits and vaccinations are part of the continued care the rescue offers the cats.

“If anyone is interested, we have plenty of cats ready for a supported adoption,” St Giles Animal Rescue Center Manager Jack Linnell said.

Lady Freethinker is glad to see this creative program benefitting both guardians and animal companions and hopes for the development of more such initiatives so that all rescue animals find the loving and devoted guardians they deserve.
