Two puppy sisters rescued in war-torn Ukraine are now healthy and safe at a Lady Freethinker-sponsored shelter — thanks to you.

The six- or seven-month-old dogs were picked up with help from local residents just as an air-raid warning sounded and heavy rain descended on the village.

Despite a difficult car ride, the fortunate pups were brought to Fluffy Pants shelter, where veterinary attention, nourishment, and compassionate care awaited them. Operated by LFT partner Dobri Vchynky Razom, the shelter provides a vital refuge for dozens of dogs and cats affected by the war.

Since arriving at Fluffy Pants, both puppies have been examined by a veterinarian and found to be in good health. They have also received vaccinations and treatments for parasites.

Although they are sisters, the two have strikingly different personalities. The sable-colored puppy is shy and cautious, spending much of her time tucked away in her little house, while her black-coated sister is fearless and eager for attention.

Beyond supporting animals at the shelter, LFT has sponsored 150 locally built doghouses for families who cannot afford adequate housing for their dogs. These critical structures both shield beloved animal companions from harsh weather and offer them a comforting retreat amid the turmoil of war.

In addition, the shelter itself is now better equipped to care for its animal residents, with a new covered enclosure that allows cats to safely experience the outdoors, a utility building that provides storage for supplies, and a large refrigerator that makes it easier for staff to store food and medication.

LFT is deeply grateful to our invaluable donors, whose generosity makes this lifesaving work possible. With your continued support, we can bring safety, comfort, and care to even more animals in need across Ukraine and around the world.
