Amid coronavirus pandemic-related restrictions, Animal Place has organized the Farmed Animal Conference E-Summit (FACES), a new and free online event featuring leading figures in the animal activist community, such as moral philosopher and author of Animal Liberation Peter Singer.
Additionally, the summit will feature Animal Place executive director Kim Sturla, PCRM president Dr. Neal Barnard, Tofurky’s Seth Tibbott, Save Movement founder Anita Krajnc, filmmakers Kip Andersen and Keegan Kuhn (Cowspiracy, What the Health), author Melanie Joy (Why We Love Dogs, Eat Pigs and Wear Cows), Oscar-winning filmmaker Louie Psihoyos (The Cove, The Game Changers), author Jeffrey Moussaieff Masson (When Elephants Weep and The Face on Your Plate), evolutionary biologist and author Marc Bekoff (The Emotional Lives of Animals), Encompass founder Aryenish Birdie, Afro-Vegan Society president Brenda Sanders, Big Cheese Miyoko Schinner, and Plant Based on a Budget’s Toni Okamoto Shapiro.
Co-organized by the all-vegan channel Plant Based Network, the summit will take place on August 3 through 9, and replaces the Farmed Animal Conference that Animal Place usually hosts at its 600-acre sanctuary in Northern California.
Alongside the summit’s prominent personalities, celebrity TV journalist and bestselling author Jane Velez-Mitchell, Plant Based Network CEO Ronnie “Tsunami” Gandiza, author and Our Hen House co-founder Jasmin Singer, and 13-year-old activist Genesis Butler will host the event.
FACES will stream three videos each day for seven consecutive days, and there will also be affordable packages for those attendees who want to keep the videos, audios, and transcripts forever. All profits will support Animal Place.
“The dire issues affecting farmed animals are only increasing during this global pandemic, and as animal activists, vegans, and environmentalists, we knew we had to do more,” said Sturla. “FACES will teach us all how to be more effective and strategic advocates, how to influence law and policy, how to use social media like a pro, and how to build a bigger, more inclusive movement.”
