A New York City police officer who rescued a roughly five-week-old tabby kitten from underneath a food truck has now welcomed the tiny feline into his home, according to local news.
After receiving several reports about an animal hit by a vehicle near Central Park in Midtown Manhattan, police responded to the scene to find a large crowd assembled around a food truck. People in the crowd informed officers that a cat was trapped beneath the truck, but the police couldn’t spot the animal — until an audible meow confirmed he was there.
NYPD Officer Frank Squillante felt around beneath the vehicle, and when he reached into the wheel well, he was met with the sweetest surprise: a tiny tongue licking his hand.
The officer then retrieved the “shaken up” but uninjured kitten and drove him back to the precinct while another officer held him in the passenger seat. Later, the kitten — now known as Cheech — was brought to the vet for a checkup and his vaccinations.
The heroic rescuer said he knew right away the kitten had stolen his heart.
“Everyone was pretty much telling me that the cat finds you, you don’t find the cat,” said Squillante, the kitten’s savior and new guardian. “It was a sign that we are meant to be connected together.”
Lady Freethinker applauds Officer Squillante, who not only saved this vulnerable kitten from the perilous streets of New York City, but also gave him a safe place to call home. Thanks to his kindness, Cheech’s future looks much brighter.
