A police deputy valiantly rescued a large ocean sunfish who had become trapped in shallow water on a Volusia County, Florida beach, according to Fox Weather.

Bodycam footage shows Deputy Urquhart tugging on the fish’s fin to free them from the sand beside the shore.

Because of the sunfish’s size, Urquhart’s attempts to dislodge the individual by this method were unsuccessful. This isn’t surprising, as an ocean sunfish can grow to 14 feet in height, 10 feet in width, and weigh almost 5,000 pounds.

“This thing’s heavy, bro,” Urquhart stated to the other deputy.

He then tied a rope around the fish, carefully pulled and turned them in the right direction, and gently pushed them forward. In a beautiful moment, the sunfish slowly swam back into the ocean.

Unfortunately, sunfish are listed as vulnerable to extinction.

Lady Freethinker commends these deputies for their kindness and determination in rescuing this magnificent creature.
