A well-known and beloved mother duck named Violet is once again melting hearts in Gurnee, Illinois, after leading her eight ducklings through Prairie Trail School on their way to a nearby pond.

Violet has been returning to the school’s courtyard for years to nest and hatch her babies, making her a cherished part of the school community. Each spring, once the ducklings are old enough to waddle along, Violet proudly guides them through the school halls while staff help keep the path safe. The school district says she even knows the routine by heart, with students and staff watching the adorable procession from a respectful distance as the little family makes its way outside.

It’s a small moment, but one that says so much about kindness and coexistence. Instead of treating wildlife as a nuisance, the school has embraced Violet’s annual visit and helped her ducklings reach the pond safely, turning an ordinary day into something unforgettable for the whole school.
