When Turkish lawmakers passed the so-called “massacre law” in July 2024, stray dogs across the country were suddenly at risk — facing capture, mistreatment, and even death.
Yet in the face of this crisis, compassionate advocates in Turkey and around the world have been working tirelessly to protect these vulnerable animals and fight for a kinder future. And thanks to YOU — the incredible supporters of Lady Freethinker — we’re helping support these lifesaving efforts and bring hope to dogs in need.

Because of your generosity, LFT helped fund a new shelter for puppies, seniors, and sick dogs after their former shelter was demolished following the “massacre law.” We also aided with needed supplies such as food, doghouses, sterilizations, and a water distribution system.
These innocent dogs were still inside the facility when bulldozers tore it down — but miraculously, they survived. With their home gone, their future hung in the balance, yet their caretakers refused to give up and relinquish them to inadequate municipal shelters. As a result, nearly 70 dogs are now safe and receiving the care they deserve.

Still, the situation for dogs in Turkey remains urgent. According to local rescuers, ongoing roundups continue to funnel animals into public “shelters,” where large numbers are reportedly killed.
