When Turkish lawmakers enacted the so-called “massacre law” in July 2024, stray dogs across the country found themselves in the crosshairs — facing capture, persecution, and death.
In another blow to these houseless canines, Turkey’s highest court recently rejected an attempt to overturn the controversial legislation.
Still, dedicated animal advocates within the country and around the world are working hard to protect these innocent dogs and keep hope alive for a more ethical future. And thanks to YOU — the amazing supporters of Lady Freethinker — we are able to help these activists saving dogs in Turkey.
With your donations, LFT is offering critical, lifesaving support. LFT has been able to fund veterinary care, shelter, and food to rescue groups in Turkey through $25,000 in grants from our Animal Aid program. Here are just a few examples of dogs whose lives have been changed thanks to your support:

Duman When Found & Duman Today (Courtesy of Doğa Dostu ve Hayvanları Koruma Derneği)
Duman was found as a sick puppy with his siblings in the countryside. He was diagnosed with canine distemper, an incurable disease that attacks the nervous system. Provided with a good diet, supplements, and care, Duman grew into a healthy adult. He now shares a home with his siblings.

Gürbüz (Courtesy of Doğa Dostu ve Hayvanları Koruma Derneği)
Gürbüz was found in rough shape with a case of severe mange. After receiving specialized veterinary care and ongoing treatment at an animal care area, he was transformed into a happy dog who also lives with his siblings.

Biber (Courtesy of Doğa Dostu ve Hayvanları Koruma Derneği)
Abandoned as a young pup, Biber was dealing with hind leg issues that made it difficult to walk. Following stem cell treatment and a recovery period, she’s now enjoying life in her new home.
Thanks to the generous support of LFT’s donor like you, these dogs — and many more like them — are now off the streets and getting the care they deserve.
LFT is incredibly grateful to all of our supporters and the dedicated activists on the ground who are making a real difference in these vulnerable animals’ lives. As the situation in Turkey continues to evolve, we will persist in working to protect these defenseless dogs. Thank YOU for helping us save lives.
