A young deer escaped a precarious situation after firefighters in Astoria, Oregon, removed the vulnerable animal from the roof of a home in an unusual rescue operation, according to People.

The Astoria Fire Department learned about the fawn’s predicament when a dispatch call came through on the Fourth of July reporting that the youngster had been stuck on a roof for about an hour.

Firefighters responded to the scene, using a roof ladder to climb atop the home and reach the stranded fawn while the mother waited nearby.

A crew member was then seen carefully carrying the baby animal to a set of stairs before the fawn was finally returned to the mother’s care.

“The fawn made a few noises that alerted its mom, and while the baby deer ran down the stairs the mother ran over to the stairs as they reunited,” an AFD spokesperson told People.

Following the heartwarming face-to-face reunion, the baby deer and the mother slowly walked away together toward the woods.

Exactly how the fawn ended up on the roof remains a mystery, but the fire department has speculated that the deer may have been frightened by someone nearby, prompting a climb up the staircase and a jump onto the roof.

Whatever the cause of the fawn’s rooftop adventure, the ordeal fortunately had a happy ending, and Lady Freethinker is grateful to the Astoria Fire Department for helping to save the deer and reunite them with their mother.
