A dog named Luna was heroically rescued from a cliffside at Cumberland Falls Park in Kentucky, according to Fox 56.
After coming across a Facebook post on February 18 asking for help for a stranded dog, John Olsen eagerly awaited updates – but none came. Having been unable to save his own dogs from a fire in 2023, Olsen felt like he had no choice but to take action and locate this dog in need.
Armed with directions to her location and a GoPro to document the journey, Olsen walked for hours through the snowy woods in search of the dog until he heard a bark.
He finally found her in a hillside cave, trembling as the frigid waters of the Cumberland River flowed below. After following the dog’s and Olsen’s footprints, more concerned citizens joined the effort to bring her to safety. Olsen noted that Luna might not have survived if the rescuers hadn’t arrived when they did.
“No matter the part you play from keyboard commando to boots on the ground cliff hangers they’re all important,” Olsen told Lady Freethinker. “I may be the face of Luna’s rescue but everyone involved is a hero.”
Olsen gave her the name Luna. As he works to restore her health, he is also trying to find her a loving permanent home.
Lady Freethinker commends everyone involved in saving Luna and congratulates Olsen for taking such heroic action and creating a more compassionate world.
