A curious black cat who got her head stuck in a ceiling drainpipe is safe at home with her family, thanks to the help of local firefighters, BBC News reported.
John, a female cat living with her family in North Somerset, England, hadn’t come for her breakfast. Cassie, her guardian, searched for her and was alarmed to find her in the garage, with just her head sticking out of a drainpipe in the ceiling. After calling the fire and rescue service, a crew of Clevedon firefighters arrived to aid the helpless cat.
“The crew used ladders and small tools to cut John out,” the Clevedon Firefighters posted on Facebook. “The easiest and least distressing option was to cut a section of the pipe out with John in situ. John was then transported to a local [vet] who sedated her in order for the rescue to continue where no serious injury was found.”
After cutting the pipe containing John from the ceiling, the feline got a lift to Vets4Pets Clevedon on the fire truck. Everyone went to work, with the staff placing a catheter and giving John oxygen and a sedative while the firefighters used a saw to cut through the pipe. After being set free, she was fussed over before being sent home with Cassie, who was surprised to discover that John had gone viral.
“Can’t thank you ladies enough for your care,” Cassie commented on Vets4PetsClevedon’s Facebook post. “We’ve been cuddling all afternoon, just picked the phone to discover she’s now an internet sensation! What a bonkers day!”
Lady Freethinker commends the Clevedon Firefighters and Vets4Pets Clevedon for taking such gentle and compassionate care of John and making her rescue as trauma-free as possible.
