For over two years, a cheerful pit bull mix named Prunella spent her days in a shelter — but now, she has finally been welcomed into a loving home, according to local news.

After being picked up as a stray in poor condition, Prunella was brought to the city shelter, where her future looked grim following a failed dog-intro test. Thankfully, Missouri Pit Bull Rescue (MPR) in Kansas City, Missouri, took her in and gave her a second chance.

Since she wasn’t comfortable around other dogs and needed to be the only animal companion in the home, finding Prunella a family proved difficult. Still, her joyful spirit never faded — and she had no trouble forming bonds with humans.

“Everyone is a long lost friend,” the shelter said. “She usually has a big happy twinkle in her eyes when she’s with people, and you can’t wipe the smile off her face.”

Recently, Prunella was adopted by a family in Texas, and from the looks of her Instagram, she seems to be enjoying her new reality — playing with a water hose, hanging out by the pool, rolling in the grass, and riding shotgun with her guardian.

“Being loved and well-cared for is most likely a situation she has never known in her life,” MPR volunteer Jessica Donahoo said.

Lady Freethinker is grateful to MPR and Prunella’s new family for providing her with the love, care, and safety she deserves — and we hope her journey inspires more people to give shelter animals a chance at happiness.
