Foxes, mink, and other innocent animals raised and killed for their fur suffer in cramped cages before being bludgeoned, gassed, or electrocuted to death. Some are even skinned alive. Yet brands are still allowed to feature fur in official Milan Fashion Week shows.
Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, Milan Fashion Week’s organizer, has asked brands to avoid animal fur at its shows, and the organization will also stop promoting fur products in its own communications.
The guidance is voluntary, and the organization says it does not limit brands’ creative or business decisions. By contrast, Copenhagen Fashion Week has already banned fur and other animal materials from its runways.
A request to avoid fur is not enough — Milan Fashion Week must make its runways fur-free. No animal should suffer and die for a fashion statement.
