Defenseless goats and other animals are set to be ritualistically hacked to death at the upcoming Gadhimai Festival in Nepal – where they are sure to suffer extreme terror and horrific pain.
The senseless massacre will take place over the course of two days in what is widely seen as the most massive ritual slaughter of animals across the globe. The bloodshed happens every five years – and the death toll is staggering. Tens of thousands of animals were brutally butchered at the most recent event, as reported by Newsweek.
Approximately 200 butchers will raise their blades overhead to kill masses of animals — while festival-goers watch — at the upcoming slaughter. Those animals who are last to die will watch in terror as others suffer. When the festival concludes, the ground will be littered with bloodied corpses and decapitated animal heads.
Some goats, buffalo, birds, and other animals ritualistically killed at Gadhimai are forced to travel through grueling conditions and kept without food or water.
These innocent, feeling beings deserve so much better.
The bloodshed has sparked outrage, both in Nepal and across the globe. Government officials and Nepal’s Supreme Court have reportedly discouraged the slaughter – and now it’s time to prohibit it.
We are calling on Nepal to officially end the cruelty.
