After being adopted and then returned to Florida shelters six times, a sweet dog named Brucey finally has a permanent family, The Sacramento Bee reported.

It took the water-loving bulldog mix two years to find his forever home. He was even moved to a different shelter to see if his chances at finding a permanent home would improve. The problem wasn’t Brucey — but that his previous adopters didn’t take the shelter seriously when they tried to explain his “picky behavior,” according to Randa Richter, humane programs and public media director for the Lakeland-area location at Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Florida.

“His size can be intimidating, but he is the biggest lovebug ever,” Randa Richter said about Brucey.

Luckily, Brucey’s “person” was still out there; they just hadn’t met. That finally changed when SPCA Florida hosted an employee appreciation event where they offered a selection of food trucks for the staff to enjoy.

“After 2 years in and out of SPCA Florida, Brucey finally went home… with the ice cream truck lady!” SPCA Florida wrote on Instagram. “She was here with her truck feeding us delicious treats when, on a break, she went to meet Brucey. It was love at first sight!”

In the attached video, Brucey is led on a leash toward the “ice cream truck lady,” looking adorable in a shark costume. As he approaches her, his entire tail and backside start wriggling with excitement. The video ends with Brucey and his new guardian getting into the ice cream truck. Brucey looks right at home.

Brucey has now been in his new home longer than any of his other adoptions, according to Richter. His new guardian also reportedly has experience with dogs who are particular like Brucey and has even reached out to SPCA Florida for continued advice about his behavior in effort to show him all the love he needs.

Lady Freethinker applauds SPCA Florida for never giving up on Brucey — and his new guardian for taking a chance on a dog whose history may have scared others off.
