PETITION TARGET: U.K. Parliament
Trembling in fear inside tiny, filthy, wire cages before being bludgeoned to death, gassed, or electrocuted: This is the excruciating life of misery animals are typically condemned to suffer on fur farms. Foxes and other innocent animals may even be skinned alive — as a Lady Freethinker investigation of a Chinese fur farm exposed.
Foxes, minks, chinchillas, and other animals are brutally killed because of the demand for their furs from countries like the U.K. — where fur farms are banned but the import of some furs is still allowed. Now, a newly introduced bill could help stop the cruelty by completely prohibiting the sale or import of fur into the country.
The import of dog and cat fur is already banned under U.K. law. This proposed legislation could cover all other animals — so that importing or selling the skin of a mink is just as illegal as importing/selling the skin of a dog or cat.
“It is about time we shut up shop on this cruel and unnecessary trade and a fur import ban would send a powerful message to the rest of the world,” said member of Parliament Ruth Jones when discussing her new bill, per Wales Online.
The torturous pain inflicted on animals on fur farms — in the name fashion — is unconscionable. Passing a total ban on fur sales and imports in the U.K. would have a huge impact on animal welfare globally. It’s time to use our voices to speak up for the millions of animals who suffer and die because of this gruesome industry.
Sign our petition urging Parliament to pass the Fur (Import and Sale) Bill to ban all U.K. fur imports and sales — and help end the violence animals suffer on fur farms around the world.
