PETITION TARGETS: United States Congress Members
Cats have been force fed acid, burned alive, thrown from heights, and doused in boiling water for videos then posted online, according to news and witness reports.
In one instance, a person in China reportedly bragged about butchering several cats and said that he planned to adopt more and live stream their deaths, according to Vice. The man reportedly belonged to a group of cat torturers who used Chinese social media to compare notes on how to kill the felines for “fun.”
In one horrific recent report of cat torture, 80 innocent strays were reportedly skinned, gutted, burned, and electrocuted alive on video at the hands of a university student in Shandong province who allegedly then sold the gruesome footage of his torturous acts online.
Unfortunately, the brutal torture and killing of cats for online views is still happening. A recent CNN report found that this content is growing in popularity around the world, and cited data from activist group Feline Guardians noting a 500% increase in torture videos in less than a year’s time.
Disturbing, vile content showing cats being tortured and killed is available across several different websites, as well as on encrypted chats. Some videos even end up on mainstream social media, where children might see them.
Cats are sensitive, intelligent animals who deserve respect and kindness. It’s crucial that this unfathomable torture and abuse ends immediately and that those responsible for the abuse are held accountable.
Sign our petition today to urge officials to thoroughly investigate and denounce this horrific cruelty and to call for legislation to stop it. Together, we can help stop the abuse for good!
