Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have arrested Carlos Fonseca, Jr. and charged him with animal cruelty for allegedly hanging an innocent dog by her neck to a parking lot fence and leaving her to suffocate to death, according to News 3 LV.
Fonseca was booked into Clark County Detention Center and now faces four counts of willful or malicious torture and killing of an animal, along with violation of parole.
Surveillance video of the incident showed a man walking a dog on a leash to the back parking lot of a local business, where he hung the defenseless animal and left her there to die.
Police canvassed the area around the crime scene and were able to identify Fonseca by matching red streaks in his hair to those of the person seen in surveillance footage, according to an arrest warrant. At the time, Fonseca was on parole for battery with a deadly weapon and subsequently lied to his parole officer when questioned about his whereabouts.
The dog was a Japanese Tosa named Lady, who allegedly belonged to Fonseca’s girlfriend. She told police that the two had recently had a fight, according to KNSV.
Lady Freethinker thanks Sheriff Joseph Lombardo and the animal cruelty detectives who identified and arrested an individual for killing Lady. We also would like to thank the more than 38,000 people who signed our petition urging the Las Vegas police to prioritize its investigation into this senseless and inhumane crime.
We are now rerouting our petition to the office of Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson and asking that he prosecute Fonseca to the fullest extent of the law for Lady’s tragic and painful death. If you haven’t yet, sign our petition to ensure justice is served.
