Update (4/14/2022): Good News! Brownie has made it back home safely with his family, according to ABC12 News. A Better Life Animal Rescue aided in Brownie’s speedy recovery; however, he is now blind in one eye. Unfortunately, despite multiple checks back, we were unable to obtain any information that anyone was charged, arrested, or held accountable in this case, despite numerous checks back to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office. Found lying in a ditch during a snowstorm in Morganton, North Carolina, seven-year-old Jack Russell terrier Brownie was on the verge of death, his body and head riddled with 100 BB gun pellets.
Half frozen and unable to move, the gravely injured dog was found by a good Samaritan who tracked down his worried owner via Facebook and helped save his life.
The vet who examined Brownie reported that the shooter had aimed mainly at his chest, neck eyes and ears; his right eye was so badly damaged it had to be removed, and it is unclear if the sight in his left eye will return.
The nature of the bullet wounds and their location on the dog’s body indicate that he had been tied down or restrained in some way so the person responsible could shoot him over and over again.
The tight-knit Morganton community in Burke County is shocked by this horrific act of cruelty and have raised funds for Brownie’s veterinary bills and to offer an award for information leading to the arrest of whoever tortured this innocent dog.
Sign this petition urging the Burke County Sheriff’s Office to do everything in their power to find the person responsible for this heinous act and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law.
