PETITION TARGET: Scott County Sheriff’s Office

UPDATE (4/11/2022): Chapel has recovered and been adopted out to a loving forever home in North Carolina,  Speak for the Unspoken told Lady Freethinker. Those who are interested can follow her adventures on Instagram at chapels_adventure. While we are ecstatic that Chapel found the loving home she deserves, unfortunately on the criminal end of things, no one was connected to this crime. A Scott County Animal Shelter receptionist told LFT that the case ended up being a “dead end.” We’ll continue to do all we can to advocate for animals, and we thank everyone who signed our petition seeking justice for Chapel! —Lady Freethinker Staff

A beautiful Australian shepherd puppy was stuffed into trash bags weighed down by rocks and thrown into a frozen creek to die in Sadieville, Kentucky this week.

The puppy was a fighter and managed to free her head from the bag, but still could not escape from the icy stream, struggling to keep her head above water.

Two men passing by spotted the freezing dog and waded into the water, saving her life and rushing her to Scott County Animal Shelter.

After a vet check, a hearty meal and some TLC, the puppy — later named Chapel — recovered well, but vets discovered she had a congenital eye defect that means she will need special care for the rest of her life.

Chapel is a “double merle,” — a result of inappropriate breeding between two merle dogs. Double merle puppies have a high chance of being deaf or blind and unscrupulous breeders often dispose of them at birth.

Chapel is now in the care of Speak for the Unspoken in Ohio, who are determining what care this special girl will need before seeking a forever home for her.

Scott County Animal Shelter are investigating this incident and ask people with information to call 502-863-7897.

Sign this petition urging the Scott County Sheriff’s Office to do everything in their power to find the person responsible for this heartless criminal act and work to ensure that they never harm another animal again.
