Modern Western eating habits have caused a global crisis that can no longer be ignored. The typical American diet revolves around animal products like meat, eggs and dairy, and poses serious health risks to consumers including obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.
In recent years, the rates of these conditions have risen dramatically. Experts agree that lifestyle choices – particularly, our eating habits – are mostly to blame for this considerable uptick.
The increased risk of disease among humans isn’t the only damaging effect of the Western diet. Due largely to the industrialization of animal-based food production, cruelty toward animals is at an all-time high. Additionally, this way of eating has a plethora of harmful impacts on the environment.
Change is possible, however. A recently-released documentary, entitled H.O.P.E. – What You Eat Matters, details the dangers of the modern diet and explores the benefits of transitioning to a plant-based one instead.
This award-winning film, endorsed by Sir Paul McCartney, features powerhouse experts like Dr. Jane Goodall and Dr. T. Colin Campbell, who help bust the myth that animal consumption is necessary for optimal human nutrition. It discusses the many ways a meat-laden diet damages our health, exposes animals to unimaginable abuse and endangers the environment.
