At the age of 13, Jamie found himself living in an animal shelter because his former owner moved into a nursing home and, sadly, was forced to give him up.
As difficult as the separation must be for both, this adorable cat’s former owner can feel better knowing that Jamie is now in very good hands — literally. The sweet, affectionate feline now gets plenty of love, and sleeps with his new owner holding his paw.
Often overlooked at shelters, senior cats (and dogs) often make the best pets. Mellow, affectionate and trained, a senior pet is a joy to have around the house. As you can see, Jamie certainly is!
BEAUTIFUL — YOU’RE RIGHT — THANK YOU to the wonderful adopters and rescuers who take these sweet animals in — you’re doing good work.
It is heart-warming to read that this cat found a new home. So many senior animals do not. But if I may, I would like to ask everyone who happens to read this post to consider the following. Where I live we have been trying very hard to get seniors homes to let the residents bring their pets with them. WE have had to go pick up animals form people’s homes — because they are going away — and it is truly gut wrenching. I swear the poor folks age 10 years on the spot! Or if they all can’t bring their animals, (I understand that would mean a lot of extra work for the staff) we are trying to get seniors homes to at least adopt 1 or 2 animals for the seniors to have at the facility to visit during the day.
I so appreciate people that care about animals. Animals need love and security even when they are older. Thank you for helping the senior cats to have love in their life. I have 3 cats and 2 dogs, all rescue. Several were seniors.
Absolutely agree – keeping pets and their humans together as they age results in both living longer, happier, healthier lives !!
I think we should do more to get senior cats and seniors together plus vets with PTSD could get cats. There are so many in shelters and they could be giving love to vets. One of my neighbors is a vet and in a year he will be getting a trained dog. In the mean time he went and adopted a cat so he wouldn’t be lonely and you know love will be shared.
It’s so refreshing to see a happy-ever-after story. I’m so happy kitty found a new forever home and you can see she’s truly grateful as well. Thanks for sharing!!
I’m thrilled that wonderful people like YOU are there for these sweet animals — THANK YOU.
Six years ago I adopted a thirteen year old male orange tabby from my city shelter. He became my best friend. Unfortunately, he died a year ago. It was such a good experience that I decided to adopt another senior cat from my city’s shelter. I found a very sweet twelve year old female cat who had lost her family when they moved away. She has settled in and loves to sleep with my other cat.
Lea,
What a wonderful person you are! God bless you for your selflessness and compassion!!
Lea..you are wonderful..! If only there were more people like you in the world who would adopt senior pets..Sadly most want kittens. Thank you SO much!!!
Rest assured that you gave him a good life during his last years. Thank you for your compassion for a senior kitty.
