In a heartwarming display of friendship amid the catastrophic Australian bushfires, a video, captured in the backyard of a family’s home in Adelaide Hills, South Australia, shows a koala sharing a drink of water with his canine companion, Rusty.
To escape the heat, Quasi the koala frequently joins Rusty in his family’s backyard to hydrate and rest in one of their trees.
“Rusty doesn’t mind sharing the water bowl at all,” said Danielle Stone, Rusty’s guardian. “I think humans could learn a thing or two from this pair.”
“These two have known each other for several years,” a family friend added on Facebook. “[It is] special when you see something like this which is natural and unstaged.”
Recent estimates suggest the loss of wildlife due to the bushfires could have eclipsed one billion animals. As the fires continue, it is impossible to tell how many more lives will be lost.
