PETITION TARGET: Speaker of the New York Assembly
Peanut the squirrel and Fred the raccoon were removed from the care of their guardians at the P’Nuts Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary in New York and killed so rapidly there was no hope to save them, as reported by CBS News. After being taken from their home, the duo faced mandatory rabies tests that were tragically only possible post-mortem — condemning them both to death. Both tested negative.
Peanut and Fred did not deserve to have their lives suddenly ended. Now, newly proposed legislation could prevent other animals at sanctuaries from suffering similar deaths.
If enacted, Peanut’s Law: The Humane Animal Protection Act could provide animal caretakers at sanctuaries at least 72 hours to exercise emergency appeal rights — and possibly save their animal’s life. It could also ensure that a board of experts review cases within 48 hours. This proposed legislation could be a lifeline for future animals.
Without action, sanctuary animals in New York remain at risk of being torn from their homes — and killed nearly immediately.
Sign our petition urging the Speaker of the New York Assembly to advance Peanut’s Law: The Humane Animal Protection Act to protect innocent animals from being seized and unnecessarily killed.
