UPDATE (7/17/2023): Connecticut has signed this bill into law! Thank you to everyone who signed our petition advocating for defenseless companion animals everywhere! —Lady Freethinker Staff

A sweet cat named Gem died from blunt-forced trauma after being beaten up and drenched in bleach by a man in Fairfield, Connecticut. The same man reportedly burned a cat named Pearl with toxic chemicals — causing her tail to be amputated.
These are just a couple of the animals who have been subjected to extreme violence and abuse in Connecticut. But now, the state is considering a new law that would crack down on abusers who seek to harm defenseless animals.
HB 6714 would ban anyone convicted of cruelty to animals from owning another companion animal for five years. The bill would require veterinarians to report any suspected dog fighting instances and also would expand the state’s definition of bestiality.
Without this important legislation, there’s nothing that would stop convicted animal abusers from obtaining – and possibly harming and killing – another animal again.
It’s time for Connecticut to join the thirty-eight other states and DC that already have an animal possession ban!
Sign our petition urging senators in Connecticut to support and swiftly pass this bill, which could stop preventable suffering by sending the message that people who intentionally harm animals will be held fully accountable for their violent actions.
