An Australian Shepherd was allegedly stuffed into a garbage bag and casually tossed in a dumpster by some men in Birmingham, Alabama, according to local news.
Disturbing surveillance footage shows one man dragging a bag that allegedly contains the dog to the dumpster and repeatedly trying to throw it in — but it hits the side instead. Two more men approach and hurl the bag several feet through the air into the dumpster — as if they were simply discarding some trash instead of a living being — and then close the lid.
After laying in filth for hours, the dog, now called Patches, was rescued by a concerned citizen. Patches apparently managed to free his head from the bag, which allowed him to breathe.
The innocent pup was badly injured — an exam revealed puncture wounds on his face, along with a past scar — but he is recovering.
The incident is reportedly under investigation, but no suspects have been identified at this time.
The callous disregard for Patches’ life is heartbreaking. Not only was this helpless, living dog allegedly packed into a garbage bag and dumped like trash, but he was left to suffer in the dark amid filth, wounded and likely terrified, with no way to escape.
