PETITION TARGET: Director of Public Prosecution, Roseau Magistrate’s Court, and President of Dominica
Toby the donkey endured unimaginable cruelty in Dominica when he was tied to a truck with a rope and dragged for over three kilometers down a road — tearing off so much flesh that muscle and bone were exposed, and leaving him with broken ribs and legs.
Once he was rushed to Saint Nicholas Animal Rescue (SNAR) to receive veterinary care, it was also discovered that he had bone fragments poking through his skin, deep lacerations on his muscles, soft tissue damage, and significant blood loss.
“The level of pain and suffering associated with these injuries is significant and would be very difficult to manage,” the veterinary report stated.
For nearly seven weeks, Toby received care and treatment for his devastating injuries — but sadly, the damage was too severe, and he did not survive.
Although authorities were initially slow to press charges, SNAR was able to hire a lawyer with funding assistance from LFT to pressure officials to hold the perpetrator accountable. An individual has been charged with animal abuse and neglect.
Left with torn skin, shattered bones, and serious wounds, Toby endured prolonged, excruciating suffering before he died — the result of a horrifying act of cruelty that must be taken seriously.
Sign our petition urging officials in Dominica to treat this case with the severity it deserves so that no other animals are subjected to a similar horrific fate. Ask authorities to hold the individual responsible accountable to the greatest extent the law will allow, order them to receive intensive psychological counseling, and prohibit them from having any animals in the future.
