PETITION TARGET: Lee County District Attorney
A 16-year-old, partially blind dog was found struggling inside a trash bag in a dumpster outside a Family Dollar store in Lehigh Acres, Florida.
The senior Shih Tzu, named Xyla, was discovered by employees inside the tied-shut trash bag with a rope around her neck, according to Fox 35 News.
“Hospital examinations determined that Xyla was on her way to a painful death,” Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a press release.
No animal deserves to be thrown away like garbage.
Microchip records revealed that Xyla’s caregivers were dead. If not for the quick action of employees at the Family Dollar store — who reportedly rushed the innocent dog to an animal hospital after noticing the moving bag in the dumpster — Xyla likely would have lost her life after losing her family.
Surveillance footage outside the store appears to show a person removing a black trash bag from the trunk of a car and tossing it into the store’s dumpster. An individual has been charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty, according to news.
Sign this petition to urge the Lee County Attorney to prosecute the individual(s) responsible for this cruelty to the fullest extent of the law, including a lifelong ban on having animals.
