A 3-month-old Jack Russel Terrier puppy named Gideon was allegedly intentionally placed into a bathtub filled with scalding water by a young woman in Michigan, as reported by local news.
Gideon’s body was reportedly covered in third-degree burns when he was rescued by the Detroit Animal Welfare Group (DAWG). He was in excruciating pain and crying constantly, according to DAWG’s Director Kelly LaBonty.
“It’s going to affect him the rest of his life,” LaBonty said. “He may not get hair back in some areas because the burns were so deep.”
Gideon’s rescuers say nightmares have disrupted his sleep, and he needs round-the-clock medical care. Recently, his pain was so intense that he required medication to help him rest.
Meanwhile, the rescue alleges there are other dogs living in the home Gideon was rescued from who may be at risk of abuse.
No charges have yet been reported in this case — despite the severity of this puppy’s wounds and suffering.
The pain and trauma this innocent, tiny puppy experienced is heartbreaking. It’s critical that his suffering is not overlooked — for his sake and the sake of the other animals.
Sign our petition urging the Detroit Police Department to investigate thoroughly to find whoever is responsible for burning this puppy and prevent them from harming other animals.
