PETITION TARGET: Crown Attorney’s Office
Several 8- to 10-week-old puppies were reportedly purchased online, brutally mutilated, and either killed or abandoned to die in parks and other public spaces in a suburb of Toronto, Canada, according to CTV News.
Four puppies were found — one lifeless and three suffering from injuries — and their tiny bodies bore the signs of intentional harm. Investigators know of at least eight dogs who are linked to the suspect in this case and fear there may be more victims whose suffering has not yet come to light.
The suspect allegedly purchased the puppies over social media and online marketplaces and used an alias to communicate with the sellers.
Buying and selling animals on social media, Craigslist, and other online platforms is extremely dangerous and unethical. With no oversight, it opens the door for cruel individuals — including breeders and puppy mill operators — to exploit these vulnerable beings, while shelters and rescues are overflowing with animals looking for homes.
The alleged abuser faces twelve charges, including causing unnecessary suffering to animals, killing or injuring animals, and cruelty to animals.
These innocent puppies endured severe abuse and were then discarded like trash — their pain the result of not only one man’s alleged actions, but also of the unregulated online marketplace that allowed him to easily obtain them. We must send a strong message that both abusing and treating animals like commodities is completely unacceptable.
Sign our petition urging authorities to prosecute the individual responsible to the fullest extent of the law — including mandating intensive psychological intervention and a lifelong ban on having animals.
