UPDATE (2/13/2023): We sent our petition, signed by more than 43,000 people, to the New Zealand Associate Minister of Agriculture. Thank you to everyone who spoke up for this sentient possum and voiced that these animals do not deserve to be treated so ruthlessly! Unfortunately, despite multiple checks back, we were unable to learn whether anyone had been held accountable for this heinous act. We’ll keep doing all we can for animals. —Lady Freethinker Staff

In a recorded act of unbelievable cruelty in New Zealand, a man punched a possum so hard that the innocent animal flew several feet in the air.
The graphic Tik-Tok video shows a man walking up to a possum sitting peacefully on a fence and asking someone if he should slap the animal. He then clenches his fist, draws back his arm, and punches the possum off the fence. As the helpless animal sprawls into the air, other people can be heard laughing and egging the attacker on, as shown by the video.
Possums are sentient animals who feel pain and suffering. Those responsible for this cruel, abusive treatment of an animal must be held accountable for their actions.
Sign our petition urging New Zealand Associate Minister of Agriculture with responsibility for Animal Welfare Meka Whaitiri to use all resources to help hold these animal abusers accountable for their actions. No animal deserves to be brutally attacked or injured for simply existing peacefully.
