PETITION TARGET: Clovis Chief of Police
Police in Clovis, New Mexico, are investigating after they found four helpless newborn puppies stuffed in a plastic bag and tossed in a dumpster, local news reported.
Clovis Animal Control went to the scene after a concerned passerby heard the puppies crying and called for help. When authorities arrived, one of the puppies was already dead. The most alarming aspect of the situation was the age of the puppies.
“The puppies were newly born, their eyes closed and still had their umbilical cords,” Clovis Police Department wrote in a press release on Facebook.
Animal Control officers obtained video footage that shows a man in an SUV throwing a bag in the dumpster before driving off.
These four babies were ripped from their mother and discarded like garbage. One puppy’s life was snuffed out before they even opened their eyes. Luckily, Animal Control found fosters to bottle feed the others, but they still have a difficult road ahead.
Dogs are playful, curious animals who want to be loved. The first few hours of these puppies’ lives should have been spent nursing and bonding with their mother. Instead, they were struggling to survive in a dumpster.
Please sign our petition urging the Clovis Police Department to continue investigating the case and prosecute those responsible.
