PETITION TARGET: Parker County District Attorney’s Office
A black kitten whose spine was severed and another kitten thrown in the trash after a vicious beating are just two of the reported victims of a vet tech at a north Texas shelter, according to a probable cause affidavit.
The shelter experienced 80 kitten deaths between February and mid-July — an alarming death toll that catalyzed a slew of improvements to try to determine the cause. But then an employee witnessed a small black kitten being violently abused, allegedly at the hands of a vet tech who started during that same fatal time window, and alerted police.
Police viewed the abuse, caught on camera, and heard from an on-site vet that the kitten had a severed spine and would not survive. Other videos that surfaced allegedly showed the same vet tech beating another kitten on two separate occasions and then throwing the defenseless feline in the trash.
Officers have charged the vet tech with two third-degree counts of animal cruelty — felonies that each carry punishments of between two and 10 years imprisonment and fines of up to $10,000.
No animal ever deserves to endure serious or fatal abuse — including animals who often arrive at shelters already carrying trauma from human hands.
Sign our petition urging the Parker County District Attorney to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law, including a lifelong ban on owning or working with animals for the individual(s) responsible.
