An intelligent alligator suffered for at least two months after someone wrapped tape tightly around her snout and then left her to her own devices in Hillsborough County, Florida.
A worried resident spotted the alligator, who has since been named Georgie, in a community pond with gray tape binding her mouth shut. The gator reportedly had been in the pond, unable to eat, for at least two months, according to news reports.
Alligators are incredible animals who care for their offspring and are sentient — meaning they can feel emotions like fear and distress. Georgie is still in recovery from the sheer amount of stress she experienced, and it’s crucial that no other alligators suffer as she did.
Sign our petition urging the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to use all available resources to find the individual(s) responsible for Georgie’s cruel treatment, follow-through with any applicable fines or trapping license revocations or bans, and pass any animal cruelty related charges on to a prosecutor.
