The remains of two defenseless dogs were found – appearing to have been abandoned and left to starve – in a filthy home in Loudoun County, Virginia, according to DC News Now. Another dog, named Elvis, was found as merely skin and bones.
Elvis was found wandering the streets, apparently having escaped the squalid home. A photo of the hairless dog shows the heartbreaking physical condition he was in: His hip bones, ribs, and vertebrae are clearly visible under his skin in the photo. The emaciated 10-year-old dog likely survived on trash, insects, and rodents, according to local animal control.
After Elvis was rescued, his microchip led authorities to the home where the deceased dogs were found. The woman whose address it was allegedly said she had not provided the dogs with food or water since spring 2024, according to officers.
No animal deserves to be abandoned and trapped – without food or water – to helplessly suffer a slow and painful death. We can only imagine the confusion, grief, fear, and pain these dogs must have endured.
A woman has been arrested and is facing animal cruelty charges.
