PETITION TARGET: Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova
Humane officials discovered at least ten dogs and one cat dead on a property in Alliance, Ohio, local news reported. They appear to have resorted to eating one another in an attempt to survive.
When Animal Charity of Ohio sent humane officials to the house, they found a home filled with feces and trash, as well as a dead dog and dead cat.
“The scene in the house was far more gruesome than we had anticipated,” Animal Charity of Ohio Director Jane MacMurchy told WKBN. “It was far more gruesome than a normal case than we deal with typically. It is one of those situations that is really jarring.”
Officials found more dead dogs that appeared to have been eaten in a trailer on the property, along with two chihuahuas who were emaciated and starving to death. Animal Charity of Ohio reported that they took in the surviving dogs and are helping to nurse them back to health.
“Thanks to Animal Charity, two dogs from this horrific situation can go on to live happy lives,” Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova told WKBN.
The woman who had custody of the animals moved out of the home, leaving them alone on the property without care. She is charged with at least 23 counts of animal cruelty in the case, including 12 felonies.
No companion animal deserves to be left to fend for themselves. Dehydrated, starving, and trapped in a stench they couldn’t escape, these dogs and this cat lived months in pain and agony, slowly starving to death.
Please sign our petition urging Mahoning County Prosecutor Gina DeGenova to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law, including recommending psychological counseling and a lifetime ban on contact with animals.
