PETITION TARGET: Assistant District Attorney Annemarie DiBlasio
A 13-year-old dog named Niva is tragically dead weeks after her ears were cut off and the wounds closed with glue, according to a press release from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Niva needed veterinary care after her ears were allegedly injured by another dog. Instead, she was allegedly taken to the basement in her New York home — where her ears were mutilated. Her maimed ears were then allegedly sealed with an adhesive.
Niva was suffering from septic shock and was barely clinging to life, according to a veterinarian who saw her weeks later. She was sadly euthanized. The severity of her wounds prompted a postmortem, which revealed the heartbreaking extent of the pain she’d endured.
“Niva sustained extensive injuries including repetitive puncture wounds especially on her limbs, a mostly missing right ear, and a large wound where her left ear once was,” the post-mortem found, according to a press release.
It is unconscionable that this innocent dog suffered such prolonged pain.
A man has been arrested and charged a felony count of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals as well as two misdemeanors.
Please sign our petition urging the Assistant District Attorney to prosecute this crime to the fullest extent of the law — including prohibiting the person responsible from ever again having animals.
