PETITION TARGET: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Animal Cruelty Detail
An English Bulldog named Reba was cruelly taped inside of a sealed plastic bin and abandoned to die in the Las Vegas heat, as reported by KLAS News.
Reba had been trapped and discarded next to a dumpster. Suffocating and struggling to survive in the triple-digit temperatures, she was heard whimpering by people walking through the parking lot where she was left.
The folks who heard Reba’s cries and rescued her from the bin took her to a nearby auto shop, where employees attempted to decrease her spiked body temperature by rinsing her in cool water. A local animal rescue group stepped in to help and transported Reba to a veterinary hospital. On the way, Reba suffered seizures, vomited, and struggled to breathe or move.
Once at the hospital, the medical team began treating Reba for heat stroke, dehydration, and respiratory distress. Fluid had filled Reba’s lungs and she was barely able to breathe on her own. She needed oxygen, plasma infusions, IV fluids, and round-the-clock care as she clung to life, according to Dr. Keith Mihansky, emergency veterinarian and Interim Medical Director at Veterinary Emergency Group in Henderson, NV.
“It’s one of the most difficult things that we deal with,” said Dr. Mihansky regarding the sorrow of treating animals who have endured severe abuse. “Having to see that people treat these innocent animals in such a terrible way sometimes.”
Despite Reba’s resilience and Veterinary Emergency Group’s best efforts to save the sweet English Bulldog, Reba sadly passed away from cardiac arrest. The heat stroke and shock led to a blood clotting condition that resulted in Reba’s death.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating this senseless cruelty.
The Las Vegas community raised $25,000 in a reward for anyone who comes forward with information regarding Reba’s case. A Florida-based animal welfare group and anonymous donor have since joined the cause, doubling the reward to $50,000.
Sign our petition urging the LVMPD Animal Cruelty Detail to continue thoroughly investigating Reba’s death until the perpetrator is found, apprehended, and never allowed to harm innocent animals again.
