PETITION TARGET: Tangipahoa District Attorney

A whimpering Labrador was allegedly beaten and shocked with an electric collar while in a lake in Louisiana, in a viral video posted to social media, according to local news

The disturbing video appears to show a teen abusing a frightened dog while hunting. The Labrador in the video cries out in pain while trying to swim to the shore. The dog is stopped by a teen in the water — who appears to threaten to burn the dog with an electric collar again — while laughter can be heard in the background. The teen forcibly holds the dog by the neck, screams at the dog, and then punches the dog in the head. The innocent pup appears terrified and desperate to swim to safety.

It is heartbreaking to hear a living, breathing, feeling animal cry out in pain — and to hear laughter from someone allegedly filming the apparent brutality.

After the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) was alerted to the incident in the Manchac region of Tangipahoa, they arrested three 15-year-old males for their suspected involvement in the crime. One was charged with Animal Cruelty, while two were charged with Principal Animal Cruelty — one for allegedly filming and the other for allegedly not intervening.

The dog was rehomed and the TPSO wrote in a Facebook post that after being evaluated that the dog was in a “healthy condition” — but this sweet pup deserved to be safe and cared for from the beginning.

Please sign our petition urging the prosecuting attorneys to treat this case with the severity it deserves — including intensive psychological counseling for each person involved and a ban from ever again having animals.
