PETITION TARGETS: West Mercia Police Chief Constable Pippa Mills, West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion, RSPCA Inspector Nicola Johnson
A young disabled dog was cruelly left tied to a tree and abandoned in a secluded area in west-central England.
Defford, a name his rescuers gave him, has deformed hind legs and was reportedly found terrified and confused, according to news reports. He had no food or water, and his nervous pacing led to a tangled leash that prevented the disabled dog from laying down or moving much at all.
Rescuers from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) have stepped up to care for Defford, whom they named after the police officer who helped him. They believe the innocent animal, who they described as being “sweet and gentle-natured,” is a German shepherd or Belgian Malinois mix who is only one year old.
Abandoning animals is a serious act of cruelty and should be thoroughly investigated. This loving, vulnerable animal deserved much better treatment from his former owner.
Sign our petition urging authorities to thoroughly investigate this cruel act, identify the person(s) responsible for Defford’s abandonment, and forward any applicable animal cruelty charges on to a prosecutor.
