PETITION TARGET: Michigan Department of Natural Resources
A visually impaired great horned owl suffering from head trauma was trapped in darkness inside an empty, tied feed bag — her ankle cinched with a zip tie so tightly it nearly cut off circulation — and allegedly dumped like trash on the side of a road in South Haven Township, Michigan, according to local news.
The gravely injured bird was rescued and brought to a rehabilitation center, but it may already be too late to save her.
Battling a severely swollen foot and a serious infection, her injuries are dire and she may not survive if her condition does not improve. In addition, staff said her spirit appears crushed, as if she just expects more suffering to follow.
This innocent owl — who is protected under the U.S. Migratory Bird Treaty Act — was treated as though her life meant nothing, and whoever is responsible for her torment must be held accountable.
Sign our petition urging the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to thoroughly investigate and find whoever abused and discarded this vulnerable bird.
DNR investigators say they currently have no leads and are asking for the public’s help to identify the perpetrator. If you have any information, please call Michigan’s Report All Poaching hotline at 1-800-292-7800.
