Petition Target: Miami-Dade Police Department
Three community cats were found dead over a two-week period in a South Beach, Miami, neighborhood. The deceased cats had blood coming from their mouth and ears, leading police to believe their heads had been brutally bashed into the concrete.
The community cats were part of a group taken care of by a local volunteer rescue group, SoBe Cats, who helps trap, sterilize, and feed the cat colony.
“I think somebody intentionally sought them out, was upset about them living in the area, and killed them,” a SoBe Cats volunteer who asked to be called Cassandra told News 10. “Currently, there is somebody that is violent and aggressive, and willing to harm innocent animals.”
Following the incident, SoBe Cats filed a police report and hung signs in the area warning that the perpetrators could face animal abuse charges, which can be considered a third-degree felony, punishable with up to a $5,000 fine and up to five years in prison, according to a prior Miami New Times report regarding a prior cat killing in the same area.
