PETITION TARGET: Philadelphia Police Department Third District Captain Louis Higginson

An unsuspecting cat in Philadelphia was enticed into a trap and burned alive, experiencing a death likely fraught with terror and pain, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia. The heinous act of cruelty is believed to have been intentional.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera documented the incident, NBC 10 Philadelphia reported. The footage shows a cat wandering the neighborhood, just a few minutes before a man builds a fire in the same location. The cat was later found on charred ground, with scorch marks on their lifeless body.

Community members expressed outrage on multiple levels, wondering how a person could do something so heartless to an animal.

“If someone’s going to do that to a cat, then what stops them from doing it to someone else’s house,” a neighbor told NBC 10 Philadelphia. “If they can harm a pet then they can harm anybody.”

The suspect has not been identified yet, but 6 ABC reported that police are investigating the case. The alleged abuser “is described as a man of medium build with long, dark hair.”

It is heartbreaking to imagine the horrendous suffering this cat endured before their gruesome death. Sign this petition to urge the Philadelphia Police Department to thoroughly investigate this case and push for a maximum sentence for the alleged attacker. By demanding justice, we will not only help bring closure to grieving community members, but we will also prevent the attacker from subjecting other cats to a similar cruel fate.

Anyone with information that may help police identify the alleged attacker is encouraged to contact police at (215) 686-3013 or call in a tip anonymously at (215) 686-TIPS.
