PETITION TARGET: CPS South East Chief Crown Prosecutor Kate Brown
Twelve defenseless lambs were killed and two more were euthanized due to injuries following being mowed down by a car in what police believe to have been a joyride targeting the lambs in Bramley, England, according to a BBC report.
Two suspects — a 19-year-old and a 15-year-old male — have been arrested and charged on suspicion of two counts of criminal damage. Both have been released on bail pending further investigation.
Nick Hutley, the owner of the property where the lambs were killed, believes that the suspects had to intentionally remove his farm’s gates, then “push through” an additional gate to reach the field where approximately 50 sheep were grazing, as he told BBC Radio Surrey. Hutley added that this was not the first time this had happened, calling the issue an “ongoing battle.”
The 14 lambs were less than a year old.
Sheep are naturally gentle animals who instinctually group together and run when frightened. These defenseless lambs did not deserve to spend their last moments running in terror and suffering the painful impact of collision with a car.
Before the arrests, Surrey’s Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner, Ellie Vesey-Thompson, said she fully supported the area’s Rural Crime Team in holding the offenders accountable. It’s time to ensure these innocent lambs receive the justice they deserve.
Sign our petition urging the prosecuting attorney to hold the individuals responsible for causing the deaths of the lambs, including a ban on having animals, and to provide intensive psychological intervention to prevent future cruelty.
